Keeping your mind off keloid

It's always in the back of my mind that I have a keloid on my shoulder. A lot of times when I go about my normal daily life, I still think about it. Mainly because the itchyness keeps coming back and it's almost like a constant reminder. Like hello I'm here! If this happens on a bad day, it can really bring you down. If you have keloid you know exactly what am I talking about.

There are a few things I find helpful and keeps my mind off this annoying keloid a little bit.
1. I use Cica-Care. I always talk about this product and I have posted how I use it. It really physically helps me get through my daily life. I don't feel itchy most of the days. I can move. I can workout. I can wear cashmere or wool without feeling itchy.

2. I don't keep any clothes I can't wear. I mean things that would not cover my keloid or things that make me feel subconscious. I would get rid of it.

3. I like to spend time learning stuff or do something that advance my career. I see this as a long term investment. Having a keloid equal to having an investment that keep losing money. The feeling of uncertianly is what gets me depressed. The only way to counter this is to make a good investment. Something you certainly enjoy. Something that would keep on growing overtime and no one can take that away from me. Am I making any sense?

4. I just work really hard. I'm a graphic designer so working long hours is very normal for me. I find working and designing something pretty are quite therapeutic. Even when I don't work I look at pictures and some inspirations for my personal projects. I love home decor. I took on a huge home renovation recently and that kept me busy for a year!

What about you. What's your experience?

  1. I have had a Keloid on my ear for almost 4 years and on January 9th I decided to use the tie off method it took 12 days to fall off...could have been sooner if I had cut it off but I've decided to let it fall off on its own...to be honest its good to feel normal again! I know what you're going through I felt it for 4 years. Just be confident that things will get better

  2. I feel like I've found my twin. I have a keloid on my left shoulder for the past 20 years. It is all because of the BCG vaccination at 12 that has scarred me for life. I can't wear sleeveless. I'm conscious when people touch me on my left shoulder because I know they can feel it.

  3. Your blog is very helpful. My husband keloids and has a large on on the center of his chest. He tried injections, silicone, and then removal followed by radiation treatment. It came back worse after that. We didn't know about the large silicone sheets you use and maybe he'll try those for some relief. Keep your head up and keep blogging!

  4. Hi! I have two huge keloid on my chest for 12 years. I wasnt quite bothered by them until a huge cyst started to grow underneath the keloid. The growth causing pain for a year, before I decided to excise the keloids and the cyst. It left a 16cm wound and keloid reoccured after 6months. I have been taking steroid jab monthly, silicone gel like keto, dermatix ultra, strataderm and mepiform gel pad. Nothing works. I saw your blog and start using cica care two days ago. Pain and itch has been relieved. Thank you.

  5. Hi, I got similar keloid on my right arm due to vaccination.
I had it treated many times thru steroid injection few decades back - it was half success cause half of it died but I had to move and got busy when the treatment stopped, the half that was left grew big again going into another direction;(
Then I went back to my derma to get it treated again but had to stop cause i got pregnant and then now that gave birth I am ready to get this treated again - once and for all and looking for a new dermatologist here in my place .
Your blog inspired me to document my upcoming journey, thank you and I will update you - need a lot of backreading though ;)

    1. Yes I know that blog! Her scar looks very good and that makes me very happy. I agree that we should never lose hope. I have been to the same doctor for about a year, but the treatment didn't work for me especially on the top part of my keloid where the skin is constantly moving and stretching. The area kept on spreading.
